The cost of adoption seems to scare many prospective adoptive parents away. The following organizations offer adoption grants or low interest adoption loans to families. Please know that there are different requirements for each organization and that submitting an application does not mean approval for a grant or loan. Make sure to read the fine print and fully understand the terms of the agreement.
A Child Waits Foundation was formed by adoptive parents Cynthia and Randolph Nelson in 1998. They provide low interest adoption loans and adoption grants for families who would not be able to adopt without financial help. The adoption grants are for families adopting older or special needs children. A $20.00 application fee is required when applying for an adoption loan. The Gift of Adoption Fund is a national 501(c)(3) that offers aid to prospective adoptive families in the form of adoption grants. Those adopting domestically or internationally that have an approved adoption home study are welcome to apply. They do not consider an applicant’s marital status, gender, race, creed, national origin, religion, or sexual orientation when reviewing applications. They offer grants up to $7,500. The application fee is $40.00.
Established in 1998, God's Grace Adoption Ministry, Incorporated is a nonprofit organization. They seek to help Christian families with finances in order for more children to be placed in Christian homes. The application does require a ten dollar fee plus there are five questions regarding your own personal beliefs regarding your Christian testimony. Financial help consists of adoption grants or assistance with adoption fund raising. Grants range from $1000 to $4000.
Interest-free loans offered to Jewish families in Northern California. Hebrew Free Loan Association is a nonprofit organization funded primarily by tax-deductible donations from individuals in the community.
Offers adoption grants to prospective adoptive families with priority given-but not limited-to families presenting the greatest need. The adoption home study or home study update must be satisfactorily completed prior to submitting an application.
Reece's Rainbow was started in 2004 as an outreach program serving new families with babies with Down Syndrome at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA. In 2006, the program expanded to include the promotion of international adoption of children with Down Syndrome. Adoption grants are assigned to a particular child. When an adoptive family is located for a child, the grant money follows that adoption. There is a $25.00 application fee.
Ava's Hope helps with the financial burden of international adoptions through private donations to hosting special events for sponsored families. Ava's Hope was founded in 2005 by adoptive parents. They only open up the application process when they have available funds, so check back often.
The National Adoption Foundation offers adoption grants, an adoption credit card and unsecured adoption loans. A donation in the amount of your choice is required with your grant application; this goes to help in their work. "The grant program has no exclusions as to race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, family characteristics, or income. The program is open to all legal adoptions of non-related children, and does not exclude private adoption, agency adoption, international adoption, or special needs adoption." Adoption grants range in amount from $500 to $2,500.
Co-founders, Becky & Kipp Fawcett are adoptive parents and after experiencing the long wait and high cost of adopting their son, they knew they wanted to help other families. HelpUsAdopt.ORG is a national non-profit 501 (c)3 financial assistance grant program. Families are not judged based on race, religion, marital status or sexual preference, but do need to have a completed adoption home study. The adoption grants offered go from $500 to $15,000 towards adoption expenses and are offered twice a year, in June and December.
