Mariska Hargitay - Law and Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay and her husband have adopted a baby boy, reports People magazine. They adopted a baby girl just six months ago and since the process took over a year, they decided to go ahead and start the process for a second adoption. Andrew Nicolas was born prematurely this past July and has joined big brother, August age five, and 6-month-old sister, Amaya.
Rodney Atkins - Adopted as an infant, Rodney Atkins was part of a traditional closed adoption, but in August 2008, he decided to go through the "proper channels" and be reunited with his birth mother. Atkins, age 42, reports that he is very happy that he went ahead with the adoption reunion, stating that the need to find his birth mother had nothing to do with his parents and brought great relief to his birth mother. Atkins is keeping her identity private. Atkins was born to his 19-year-old birth mother after what Atkins is referring to as a "traumatic first date" and placed for adoption, keeping the pregnancy and adoption a secret. Atkins reports that his adoptive parents have been supportive of the reunion and his adoptive mother created a scrapbook of memories for his birth mother to show her what his life was like growing up. Atkins learned that he has a brother and was able to meet his birth grandmother before she passed away. He states that he is very thankful she chose adoption as he realizes she had other options available to her.
Rodney Atkins is the spokesman for the National Council for Adoption. He released his fourth album, Take A Back Road, this month.
