United State's Citizens Banned from Adopting Russian Orphans
Dec 29th 2012, 23:29

Yesterday, Friday, December 28, 2012, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Dima Yakovlev Bill into law. The new law will go into effect on January 1, 2013. Those in the middle of the adoption process need to email the Department of State at AskCI@state.gov and provide information regarding where you are in the adoption process, using the subject line "Intercountry adoption in Russia - family update." If you have already emailed this information - you do not need to email again.

The Department of State is still working on this situation with the Russian government on how to best help families already adopting a child.
